Wrestling Team Continues Hard Work in Off-Season

By Caleb Clarke

Our Fulton wrestling team is consistently one of the top teams in the state. This is largely due to how hard they work, especially in the off-season.

Despite the season being nearly eight months away, many wrestlers are continuing to train to prepare for next season. The coaches have been opening the weight room for morning lifting sessions. The team also holds practice 3:00-4:30 p.m. at the CYO on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Head Coach Mr. Waldron said, "If you only compete or wrestle during the season you could still be good, but if you want to be great you have to train year-round. That's what most of our guys do."

Senior captain Nick Noel agreed, saying, "The off-season is what separates you from your opponents."

Mr. Waldron added, "Our goal every year is to put enough training in to compete for a state championship."

The best time to join any sport is in the off-season. Senior Kaleb Carreon said, "You want to get as much mat time as you can and the off-season is great because there's no pressure and you can try new things."

The off-season gives athletes a chance to get a good foundation to start from and get to know the team before the season starts. If you might be at all interested in wrestling, talk with Mr. Waldron.
