Sixth-grade Cassie Clarke recently shaved her head to raise money for childhood cancer research.

Volney Student Shaves Head for Fundraiser

By Caleb Clarke

Cassie Clarke is a sixth-grader at Volney Elementary and recently participated in the St. Baldrick's day fundraiser on March 31.

The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a donation-based organization that raises money to fund research for childhood cancer. The way the organization works is participants gather sponsors who are willing to donate money if the participants shave their heads.

Cassie's mom said, "Cassie has been talking about taking part in the St. Baldrick's Day shave for a few years. I am so proud of her commitment. She has such a big heart."

Cassie's sixth-grade teacher Mr. Cahill agreed and said, "Cassie is one the kindest students I have ever had. She displays empathy and compassion at a level that is beyond her years."

Cassie was able to raise over $1,800, which far exceeded her original goal of $500. Cassie thanked her many sponsors, saying, "Thank you for supporting me and bringing joy to children who have cancer."

There is still time to donate at the link below.
