GRB Students Featured in Allegro Concert

By Anthony Galletta

On February 2, GRB hosted a concert for the Allegro music program, featuring students from GRB, as well as students from other schools.

Junior saxophone player Katie Galletta said, "I think that this is a great experience, as students get to meet and play with new people. I personally find it nice to play with different groups and learn new techniques."

She added her favorite song they performed is Metamorphic Dances because "each movement brings the listener through a different story and mood and it is a technical, yet rewarding piece to play."

Senior trombonist Alex Blaine said that the program is "a fantastic opportunity, as it allows for students to have experience in a professional setting without needing a college degree."

His favorite song was "Peak Fire Flame, as it has seven different colors of music and is a fun song to play in a professional setting."

Band Director, Mr. Terrance Caviness, who is a significant part of the Allegro program, said Allegro is "really helpful for students, as it allows for them more opportunities to play their chosen instrument, gives them more playing experience, as well as allowing them to meet like-minded individuals who are on the same skill level as them."

Amerland was his favorite song and he said it is "an emotionally expressive piece, and allows for the students to stretch musically."

Students rehearsed every Sunday in January leading up to their performance.

The performance was well received by the audience, and most said that they thoroughly enjoyed it. They say that the experience is hard to explain in words, and recommend that people go to any of these concerts hosted by our school if you get the chance.

Students from all over Central New York were given the opportunity to play in this group.
