The Varsity Girls Bowling team concluded their season at Sectionals on Sunday, February 3 with a sixth place overall finish and a third place Class B ranking.
After a long day of six games, freshman Alexis Ingersoll received honors for second high game of the day with a 236 and second high series of over 140 lady bowlers with an 1198, for an average of about 200 pins.
Eighth-grader Miranda Laws also pulled out a notable game of 223 for the third highest game of the day.
The ladies final standings were: Alexis Ingersoll 2nd overall series, Miranda Laws 26th overall, Jaden Harrington 53rd overall, Sarah Gigliotti 73rd overall, and Lori Daino with 84th overall. The girls were also helped out by eighth-grader Paige Phillips with a one game assist.
Although the team’s season is complete, freshman Alexis Ingersoll achieved the high average of the SCAC Empire Conference of 207 for the season. This automatically qualifies her to bowl on the Section 3 Composite team. The composite team consists of four ladies with the high averages from the four leagues and two ladies that are the top qualifiers from the Section 3 shootout.
Alongside Ingersoll is Mackenzie O’Herien from VVS who was the top average in the Tri-Valley Conference. Ingersoll and O'Herien will return for the second year in a row to bowl together. After last year’s second place finish at States, they are on the hunt for the first place honors.
Come and root on Ingersoll and the Section 3 ladies on Saturday, March 9 at 8:00 am at Strike N’ Spare in Mattydale.
Also concluding their season is the Varsity Boys Bowling team. The boys rolled off at Sectionals on Sunday, February 10 at Pin-O-Rama in Utica. After a hard-fought battle, the boys finished third overall. Liverpool took the overall win and the opportunity to bowl in the State Team tournament.
The Fulton Boys did achieve the honors of Class B Section 3 Winners. Senior Anthony DeMasi tied a Utica-Proctor bowler for high game of the day with a 279 and finished in fifth for overall series with a 221 average.
The other bowlers on the team were as follows: Mitch Donaldson finishing in 15th overall, Joe Benavidez finishing in 19th, Owen Sheldon finishing in 28th, and Aiden Franco rounding out the team in 66th.
Unfortunately, the season has ended for three of the four senior boys, but the fourth senior, Anthony DeMasi Jr. will continue to fight longer. With his third place average in the SCAC Empire Conference, he qualifies to roll in the shootout with approximately 30 other boys for two spots on the Section 3 Boys Composite Team.
Congratulations to the Raiders for a great season!
