On Friday, May 17, GRB Students were awarded with college scholarships for their outstanding performances on NYS Regents exams. During Mrs. Ryan’s AP Calculus class, Mrs. Parkhurst came down to congratulate students and announce the honorees.
Of those awarded were seniors Ean Stevenson, Camille Stevenson, Ryan Barry, Nora Kingsbury, Shaylee Cealie, Jenna Ruzekowicz, Ana Snyder, and Jade James.
Ean Stevenson had the highest overall average and was awarded the highest prize amount of $1,500. The other six honorees were awarded $500 scholarships. These scholarships greatly help to decrease college tuition prices for the students.
Senior Camille Stevenson noted, “I wish they could have told me about this award before this year as it would have made me even more motivated to do better.”
This could be a good incentive tool to get kids to try to get high scores on their Regents exams, as a $500 scholarship (and, if they have the highest average, a $1,500 scholarship) is very beneficial for decreasing college costs.
The Regents exams that counted into the average were English, math, history, science and Languages Other Than English. Each of the students' highest scores in the categories mentioned were used to contribute to the overall average.
Senior Jenna Ruzekowicz said, “It was a great surprise. I am thankful that we have great organizations that contribute to young peoples' education."
Senior Ana Snyder said, “I really appreciate the scholarship. It will really help me financially during college."
Congratulations to these seniors!
