Coffee in the Morning

By Wendy Burch

Do you drink coffee in the morning? Many G. Ray Bodley students do, whether it is a coffee from Dunkin’, from home, or even from the school library. To some students, coffee is an essential element to get through a day.

Senior Samantha Jodway states, “Not only does it help me wake up, but it can also be very refreshing.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention researchers estimate, “Seventy-three percent of American children consume some level of caffeine each day… Now children get 24 percent of their caffeine from coffee.”

“I don’t drink coffee every single day, but I always try to go to Dunkin’ once a week. It’s a fun, inexpensive treat that helps me get through the week and finish strong,” senior Jasmine Criswell stated.

As good as coffee can be, students should realize that coffee is a source of caffeine and caffeine is addictive. It can lead to withdrawal symptoms like headaches and an irritable mood.

High school students should make sure they are drinking responsibly and not three large cups every day.
