New this year at G. Ray Bodley High School is a Unified Bowling team and it is already a huge hit. Multiple other schools in Oswego County created Unified Bowling teams including Oswego, Mexico, Central Square, and Phoenix. Fulton is excited to have a great team, too.
Unified Bowling includes everyone. The team consists of Athletes, who are students with special disabilities and Partners, who are peers who support the Athletes. Then, the teams from other schools get together and they bowl against peers with similar abilities.
Senior Michael Newton said, "I was the only Partner this year. But I would recommend it because you get to see how much the Athletes enjoy it and they are really good. There were times when they would beat me."
Most matches have been held at Lighthouse Lanes in Oswego, but their final match on March 1 was at Strike and Spare in Mattydale. Following this match, there was a fun award ceremony to celebrate the amazing season and opportunity.
Sophomore Ashlyn Wallace said, "It was a lot of fun and after our last match my parents got me my own bowling shoes, bag, and a ball with my initials on it. I will definitely do it again next year."
Special Education Teacher and Unified Bowling Coach Ms. Thompson said, "This Unified sport benefits all who are involved with a positive and rewarding experience, as well as friendships and more of a school-inclusive environment."
Don't miss out on this amazing team and all the friendships that can come from it in the 2019-2020 school year!
