February 6, 2019
Following a day off on Monday, January 21, January 22 through January 25 were days where students in grades 9-12 took the January Regents exams if they were scheduled to take any tests. For all other students, there were no classes that week. An unexpected announcement took place as students were informed that school was closed on Wednesday, January 23. The reason was because of a snow storm.
With Regents Week through, students prepared for Monday, January 28, the first day of the new semester. Students were told to report to Guided Study Hall first to receive new schedules for the third and fourth quarter.
The next day, Tuesday, January 29, was the Electives Fair. Students were grouped into sections and given a sheet of paper that had the day's schedule. For seniors, there was a senior class meeting and visitors from companies, businesses, and even a representative from Cayuga Community College came and were able to get to know their future students or employers. Students in grades 9-11 heard five different presentations about the elective classes they can take at GRB.
The Electives Fair lasted until 10:30 a.m. and students reported back to Guided Study Hall to discuss what they learned or plan to do after high school. After GSH, the schedule for a regular school day was quite different. Some bells only lasted fifteen minutes and some were 40 minutes. The bell schedule was also out of order.
Just two days after the Electives Fair was yet another Snow Day for GRB on Thursday, January 31. Though rumors were spread about having a Snow Day on Wednesday, it was a surprise to many as school was closed on Thursday due to the cold.
Friday, February 1, there was no school for students because it was a Professional Development Day for teachers.
Now, there is just one full week left before February vacation. School is not in session February 18-22.
