Battle of the Books, Battle for the Plaque

Attention students! Librarian Mrs. Scalfaro needs hard-working and devoted students for the upcoming Battle of the Books competition.

Battle of the Books is a county competition of teams of four. The team has to read eight books over the course of the school year, which was recently changed from 10 books.

After they have finished the eight books, they all compete in this year’s county region battle, which is at Mexico High School on April 16. Then, the teams move on to the Super Regional competition, which as of right now is being held at the Liverpool Library on April 25.

Mrs. Scalfaro has planned many meetings, which include doing some practice questions on the books and collaborating with groups to do practice quizzes.

It is a competition that requires a lot of dedication. People have to be in it to win it.

Mrs. Scalfaro explained, “It’s a very tense-feeling competition." She also noted she loves “seeing how devoted and determined the kids are after reading every book.”

A prize for winning the competitions is the school who won gets a plaque for their library while the students get their own personal plaques. Students also get their names in the paper and it's great to put on a college application.

Students, don’t be afraid to read a little and contact Mrs. Scalfaro in the library for more information. Good luck!
