Class of 2023 Visits GRB

By Wendy Burch

It’s that time of the year again. The eighth-graders visited our very own G. Ray Bodley High School on Friday, April 12. There were two groups, one from 7:30 a.m. - 8:45 a.m. and one from 9:00 a.m. - 10:15 a.m.

Senior Jea Adams stated, “I think it’s both necessary and important. I felt like my ninth grade orientation helped better prepare me for high school and made me feel more comfortable with the transition.”

When the eighth graders first arrived they were welcomed by Mrs. Parkhurst, listened to Mrs. Lazarek explain freshman class fundraising and other events, and learned from a panel about all the courses they can (or will) take during their ninth grade year.

The panel consisted of Mr. Heindorf, Mrs. Downing, Mr. J. Fasulo, Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Hawley, Mr. Sievers, Mrs. Frey, Mr. Murray, Mrs. Tyler, Mr. Jones, and Mr. Sievers.

After the eighth-graders were given their information about their ninth grade year, they were split up into their groups for a tour of GRB. Tours lasted about 25 minutes.

Junior Rebecca Bailey said, “I definitely remember it being helpful and I’m excited to give a tour so that I can be sure to explain everything I wish I knew before coming to high school.”

Junior Chloe Hurlbut stated, “It’s really cool to be able to inform future GRB students on all the opportunities they have here.”

After being at GRB for a few months (or years), it’s not so scary anymore, but for the upcoming freshmen this is a whole new beginning. Be kind to your younger classmates and welcome them to GRB!
