At the end of the 2019 school year, one of the most respected and positive teachers will be saying his goodbyes. Yes, Mr. Morse, the Chemistry teacher, is retiring at the end of the year.
Mr. Morse has made a large impact on the school and the students. He would cheer up students on their worst days and stay positive even on his worst days. His room was a source of happiness, with smiles everywhere, reminding you that a smile can get you through anything.
Mr. Morse has been working at GRB for 33 years and believes that it is now his time to retire, but he will never be forgotten by the students or staff.
After retirement, Mr. Morse is planning on continuing to teach Analytical Chemistry at SUNY Oswego. Mr. Morse would also like to hike the meteor crater in Arizona, the Grand Canyon, and other National Parks with his father. He would like to spend time with his mother in Cancun, spend some quality time at the Smithsonian museums, write a screen play or fictional novel, perhaps both, spend more time with his children and grandchildren, and travel with his wife to national and international destinations.
Mr. Morse said his favorite part of being a high school teacher was “watching the students mature intellectually."
He also said, "Obviously, not all students are interested in the same curriculum or the same topics within a curriculum, but I will miss the wonder and awe I see in a student's face when they become excited about a particular topic."
He noted he will also miss doing cool demonstrations for his students and sharing laughs with his students and colleagues.
According to Mr. Morse, he will not miss boring meetings. He added, "I guess boring would be redundant."
He said he also will not miss grading assignments. He said he has graded over 150,000 assignments and commented, "What would that look like you ask? Well, if each assignment was only one page, the stack of 150,000 assignments would be 26.6 feet high." Of course, most assignments were not only one page. Many were packets.
Mr. Morse will always be a legend to this high school generation and will be missed dearly as a GRB Chemistry teacher.
Congratulations, Mr. Morse!
