Girls Bowling Wraps Up Terrific Season

The Varsity Girls Bowling team completed their season Sunday, February 2 at Sectionals.

The girls finished their regular season with a record of 16-1, suffering their only loss to Auburn. This earned the girls the title of co-champions of the SCAC Empire league, along with Auburn, as Auburn’s only league loss was to Fulton.

Going into the day, the girls were excited and very nervous. Many had not had the Sectionals experience yet. The girls started out average in their first game. Then they hit their stride, totaling their second game over 1000 pins. They followed up with a 972. After the first three games, they were down just ten pins to Rome Free Academy. The afternoon would play much differently. They had to move to another set of lanes that played very different from their first pair. Many had to make drastic adjustments. The girls finished the last three games about average, but they were no match for RFA. The girls ended the tournament 134 pins lower than RFA, but did finish second. The day wasn’t a total loss, though. They did secure the Class B Title for Section 3 with a total of 5284 pins.

Fulton was led by sophomore Jaden Harrington with an average of 188.83 on the day. Harrington hit a high game of 234 for the day. She was ranked ninth of all the lady bowlers in the competition. Finishing 15th on the day was sophomore Alexis Ingersoll with a 183.83 average for the day. The rest of the team averaged the day in 21st (junior Lori Daino with a 176.17), 22nd (sophomore Miranda Laws with a 175) and 37th (seventh-grader Addison Nichols with a 157.33). Unfortunately, as a team, their season is done.

However, Alexis Ingersoll, based on her average in the league, will compete in the Section 3 shootout on February 13 in Rome for her chance at one of the two positions left on the Section 3 Composite team to compete in the state competition. Ingersoll will face 12 girls from each of the Section 3 leagues in a six-game rolloff. The top two girls with the highest pinfall for the day earn the two spots. The other four positions on the team are held by the top average in each of the four leagues, which is a guaranteed spot.

The Varsity Boys Bowling team will make their run at Sectionals Sunday, February 9 at Pin-O-Rama in Utica on Sunday at 9:00 a.m.

Good luck to Alexis and members of the boys team and congrats to the girls for a great season!
