Ski Club has gotten off to a great start this 2019 season. The club has a total of 28 members and members have five trips under their belts to Labrador Mountain. Every Tuesday after school, Ski Club meets for a fun night of skiing. So far, the weather and ski conditions have been great and each week gets better and better.
Thankfully, there have been no injuries this season. Comically, the first day, some of the club's first-time skiers went up the lift not knowing how to ski properly, leading to the Ski Patrol having to bring them down on their emergency sleds. However, with time and taking lessons those skiers are now well on their way to being successful with minimal falling.
Ironically, the first date that was scheduled for Ski Club to begin had to be postponed due to poor weather conditions. Skiing requires a lot of snow, but the club cannot go to the mountain if it is snowing because of bad road conditions.
Advisor Mrs. Ryan said, ¨We have had very cold skiing and very warm skiing. We prefer 20 degrees and snow from January to March. This weather is ridiculous.¨
One of the benefits of skiing is it is a lifelong sport. Mrs. Ryan stated, ¨I met a man who had just completed eight runs at Greek Peak and he was 91 years young!¨
Senior Collin Bennett said, ¨Ski Club gets better and better each week. People should consider joining next year. It is a lot of fun.¨
Senior Ana Snyder said, ¨Ski Club is really fun and gives us a great opportunity to take advantage of the snow.¨
