What have students been up to during ‘Corona-cation’?

By Leah O'Hanlon

For many students at GRB, this two month break from school has not been what they expected. Some students are still in work, some have just been sitting at home, and others have been drowning in school work. Despite us all having different things going on, many students have one thing in common: we want to come back to school.

Sophomore Kieran O’Hanlon is enrolled in several challenging, work-heavy courses. He said, “At first I thought this break would be a chance to hang out with my friends more and play video games. Obviously, I was wrong. I have had a lot of hard work that is taking up much more time than I thought it would. I would rather be at school because I feel like it’s harder to grasp things over the internet than in person."

For other students, there is still a good amount of work involved, but the difficulty is much lower than for those enrolled in many Honors and AP classes.

“I have had a good amount of work, but it is nothing too difficult. I guess I got lucky since I’m a senior and took all of the hard classes earlier in my high school career,” senior Vita Dean said. Dean has been using some of her free time to practice flute and piccolo.

A lucky few students are still able to work throughout this crisis and have been able to balance both work and school fairly easily. Senior Conner Billings, who works at the Fulton Fajita Grill, said, “Since this quarantine has started, I have been picking up a lot more hours. A good number of my coworkers decided to be taken off the schedule until this is over so it gives me the opportunity to work as much as I can. I haven’t had a lot of school work and normally I would complain about working so much, but I am grateful to be able to be working at all in a time like this."
