The Career Exploration Center is in GRB's library.

Opportunities Available in Career Exploration Center

By Hailey LaClaire

As the school year progresses to its end, now is a great time for seniors to visit the Career Exploration Center (CEC). Housed in the former library computer lab, the Career Exploration Center's focus is mainly career prep and life skills. This includes job applications, resumes and interviewing, what employers are looking for in employees, renting an apartment, getting a car, insurance, budgeting, credit, and more. The goal is for students to be successful no matter what they do after high school.

Mrs. Ferlito runs the Career Exploration Center and said, "We have a lot of opportunities available for students in the exploration center. I want people to know what we have here and for kids to get the experience."

She explained how students also have the opportunity to earn a National Career Readiness Certificate through ACT. In addition, Mrs. Ferlito sets up job shadows and career-related field trips for students, plus internships with local businesses where students can gain work experience and earn high school credit.

There are many events taking place at the CEC, such as presentations held by Americu and Pathfinder Bank, as well as field trips. One of the CEC's upcoming field trips is a trip to a children's hospital for students who wish to have a career in the medical field. As for this month, guest speakers from Bryant and Stratton College will be coming in to the CEC room to discuss budgeting.

The CEC is most certainly the place to go to gain not only college information, but career information. Job shadowing is just one of the many opportunities that the CEC provides for students. If you ever need any information on college or career choices, visit the CEC for assistance.

A display in the commons area shows some of the opportunities and information the CEC offers.
