Interviews With Anonymous GRB Seniors

By Andrew Smith

Now that G Ray Bodley's seniors are finishing up their last year, they will be heading out into the world. When you ask most adults what high school was like, their tendency is to grimace. Now that our seniors are becoming adults, it's time to ask the question - "What was your high school experience like?" Below are three identical interviews with GRB seniors. They will be left anonymous to encourage complete honesty.

  • What was your best memory?

1) "My junior year's homecoming, definitely! It was just a great time with all of my best friends."

2) "Going to my first GRB varsity football game with all of my friends! I was a sophomore at the time."

3) "The time our Senate convinced Mrs. Parkhurst to get pied in the face for charity!"

  • What was your weirdest memory?

1) "The time my friend ate ghost peppers during lunch... I'm pretty sure he threw up and the lunch ladies had to give him tons of milk and bread."

2) "In senior year someone was trying to get with me at Homecoming and I was really uncomfortable. They were trying really hard and it was so awkward trying to say no."

3) "Probably any of the Spirit Weeks. I loved seeing how people celebrated and there were always some 'interesting' things!"

  • How'd you survive? What kept you going?

1) "My friends! Absolutely. Without them I would've dropped out freshman year."

2) "My family and friends! They stopped me from procrastinating..."

3) "I really wanted to prove to myself that I could succeed and do things on my own. I just kept my head down, stuck with those who I knew were good people, and did my work!"

  • What is your most embarrassing story?

1) "The time I showed up to school with poorly done red highlights and then cried in the middle of third period because everyone was talking about them."

2) "I asked out my friend and got absolutely REJECTED! Although now we've ended up becoming really close friends so it all worked out."

3) "Walking into the wrong class on my first day as a freshman... I walked into a class full of upper classmen..."

  • What year of high school was the hardest? Which was the easiest?

1) "Junior year was the hardest for sure! Sophomore year was the easiest for me. I feel like everyone else has the opposite."

2) "Senior year was probably the easiest and then sophomore year was the hardest."

3) "Sophomore year was the easiest and junior year was the hardest!"

  • What year of high school do you think you thrived the most?

1) "Sophomore year probably. It was just the most relaxed."

2) "Junior year was probably the easiest... But I'm still waiting to 'thrive.'"

3) "My Junior year!"

  • What were your first thoughts going in as a freshman?

1) "This is scary. I can't do this."

2) "I went to Mexico High School that year and I was miserable! I missed Fulton! Then I came back in tenth grade!"

3) "I thought the high school was so big and I was scared that I wouldn't be able to find my classes!"

  • What are your final thoughts leaving as a senior?

1)"Thank God it's over!"

2) "Very scared. Kinda anxious? Very excited! I have to be an adult now..."

3) "It's definitely a bittersweet moment, but I'm excited to see where the future takes me!"

  • What would you say to the freshmen going in as the Class of 2024?

1) "It seems really hard (and it is) but stick with it and work hard! It's worth it in the end!"

2) "Try not to dwell on the small things! Focus on the positives and surround yourself with people who make you happy!"

3) "Make as many memories as you can. High school flies by so fast. Do your work on time and set goals for yourself!"

Congratulations, Class of 2020!
