Unless you know of any places with very few visitors, it would be best if you avoided the beach this year. Also, it would be ill-advised to go to any beaches without trained lifeguards.

How will GRB Students Spend Their Summer Days?

By Anthony Galletta

Summer ends up being the thing every student looks forward to each year. Three months of no classes, warm weather, and seemingly endless amounts of time. With this in mind, it can be hard to try and come up with something to do, so the best way to make plans is to figure out what everyone else is doing.

Of course, with how the world is right now, it may not be the best of ideas to go to water parks, conventions, or any other places with large gatherings. However, that doesn't mean you have to isolate yourself from the rest of the world still.

According to esd.ny.gov, "...Executive Orders 202.32 and 202.33, issued subsequently, allow ten or fewer people to gather for any lawful purpose or reason, provided that social distancing protocols and cleaning and disinfection protocols required by the Department of Health are adhered to." These Executive Orders were issued on June 11 at 4:27 pm, and are likely subject to change depending on changes in the COVID-19 situation.

Obviously, if you or anyone in your household is sick, stay home, as you will only get more people sick and aid in reverting any progress made. Please don't visit people who are sick either, even if they were your best friend since Pre-K. They would feel terrible if they got you or your family members sick as well.

Now, what can you do with groups of people ten or fewer, while maintaining a distance of six feet? A great thing you can do is Ultimate Frisbee. Senior Alex Blaine said, "I love Ultimate Frisbee. I played it all the time over the last few summers, and hopefully I can play a lot more for this summer."

Ultimate Frisbee doesn't need many players. As long as you have at least two members on the two teams the game will be fun and fair. The game is also optimally played with a greater distance between players instead of everyone being on top of each other.

Of course, sometimes sports aren't for everyone. In this age of technology, doing things with your friends becomes more and more easy. Instead of having to invite everyone over to your home to just play Monopoly, you and your pals can play a digital version of the game online from your homes.

You can even talk to each other over apps with voice-chat functionality like Discord or Zoom. Junior Reid Devendorf said, "I plan on losing all my friends over online Monopoly when I win every game." He also plans on playing many other games with his friends online, as well.

There are other things you can do, which don't require many people to do, such as hiking, biking, camping, or fishing. You can practice your baking, sewing, or even your aluminum foil sculpting.

Whatever you do over this summer, make sure to be safe and stay healthy. It would be really awful if you had to spend the vacation with broken limbs or with the Coronavirus.

Have a great summer, GRB!
