Looking Back, How Will COVID-19 be Remembered?

By Anthony Galletta

Like it or not, history is being made right now at this very moment. The year 2020 will be remembered for as long as history books still report on it. As to how it's remembered, well, that can differ from person to person.

One notable thing is this quarantine. Some people will see this as a long, boring stint where they just sit around the house all day and do nothing, but others will remember it as a highly stressful event, be it for any reason, such as wondering if friends or relatives are okay, wondering if they'll be laid off for being "non-essential", or even wondering if they'll have enough toilet paper.

Junior Reid Devendorf said, "It's pretty boring just doing nothing all day. At least I can get my game on and play Minecraft for eight hours straight now." He said he'll most likely remember the long, aimless days, unless something crazy happens in the near future.

For other people, the massive amount of turmoil stirring around the world will definitely stick in their minds. There are unthinkable things, such as the New York Times reporting on Kim Jong Un being dead (a later update revealed this was a rumor and has yet to be confirmed true) and the constant debate on the accuracy of the number of deaths in China.

Senior Marcus Wornick said that the quarantine protests will stick in his mind the longest. "How can people be so stupid? Don't they realize that this will only make it longer, due to them spreading it among themselves?" he said.

Finally, this pandemic has caused many to show their true colors, whether it is people who we know on a personal basis or highly successful people we looked up to. Who they are at heart has been revealed. Some have proven to be paragons of goodness in this world, helping out in any way they can, while others have shown that they have zero regard for human life, and think that the preventable losses "would be a necessary sacrifice," as a good number of people have put it.

An anonymous individual commented on Elon Musk, a tech investor who owns the companies SpaceX, Tesla, and The Boring Company. For context, Anonymous is commenting on the recent tweets that Musk has made regarding the quarantine where he is saying "Free America Now" as well as stating that the nation would be better off without a quarantine. "I used to like Elon and think that he was smart, but it turned out he was just trying to be relevant," Anonymous commented.

No matter what is remembered, it should stick in your mind for a really long time. Never before has the whole world been shut down, and now that it has, our daily lives have been changed, likely forever.
