Swimming and Diving Team Celebrates Seniors

By Sydney Lawson

On Tuesday, January 28, the varsity swim team competed against Baldwinsville for their annual senior night. Coach Lacey read each of the six senior speeches. The seniors include Dawson Curtis, Nathaniel Archer, Koji Burdick, Hayden Sachel, Mark Tallents and Annaliese Archer.

Senior Night spectator Alexis Lighthall said, “It was really emotional because it was the last time the seniors would be competing at the Granby pool."

The team also handed down their boys and girls swim parkas.

Senior Nathaniel Archer said, “The senior meet against Baldwinsville went extremely well. Almost everyone got their best times and it kept everyone on their toes. We also followed our annual senior tradition to pass down our coach’s old swim parka to a strong junior swimmer that stands out from the rest. We chose to hand the parka down to Jaden Patterson. He has greatly contributed to our team’s victories this year. Corrine Clark also received the girl’s parka this year that has been passed down from a senior to a junior since 2007."

The score stayed very close through the entire meet and came down to the final relay. Freshman Bryce Rogers, junior Jaden Patterson, freshman TJ Clayton, and senior Nathaniel Archer fought to win the final points.

Senior captain Mark Tallents said, “Senior night went well. Fulton has never beaten Baldwinsville in program history and we took them all the way until the last relay, only losing by five points total. We swam well and had a lot of personal records and we’re looking forward to Sectionals in a few weeks.”

The Swimming and Diving team will travel to Nottingham on February 13 to compete in Sectionals.

Good luck to the team and congratulations to the seniors!
