Fulton’s orchestras had their last concert of the school year on Thursday, May 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the G. Ray Bodley auditorium.
It was a bittersweet concert, sending seniors off with some last words of congratulations and encouragement, while also ending the year on a high note (literally). The symphonic orchestra played two individual pieces called "Acrobats" by Richard Meyer and "Perseus" by Soon Hee Newbold. They also played three full pieces with the band and orchestra called "Ruslan and Lyudmila" by Mikhail Glinka, "Marche Slave" by Tchaikovsky, and "Espana Cani" by Pascual Marquina Narro.
Orchestra teacher Mrs. Rodgers has been filling in for Mrs. Edele, who has been on maternity leave since March.
Mrs. Rogers shared many heartfelt words about the time and memories she has had with all of the students. She remembers many of the students from their awkward freshman and sophomore years, when she also filled in for Mrs. Edele who was on maternity leave for her first child. She is happy to see how much the students have grown and matured into fine young juniors and seniors. She explained that she could not have been prouder of her students because they accomplished many difficult pieces with different styles of playing.
Senior Kelly Caza was sad that it was her last concert she will ever play with her high school orchestra and teared up at the end of the concert, but she is also excited to begin her next steps in college and her future career in financing.
Senior Collin Bennett was also teary-eyed at the end of the concert, describing the concert as a “sad moment” because it will be the last time playing with his orchestra friends, but he also said the concert was fun and was a great way to end his senior year.
