On Tuesday, April 9, Fulton competed against seven other schools at the Oswego County Academic Youth (OCAY) League competition. The seven schools Fulton competes against at OCAY are Mexico, Oswego, APW, Central Square, Hannibal, Pulaski, and Sandy Creek. The event was a hit, as Fulton took third place, Central Square achieved second place, and Oswego placed first.
The event was named “All for Fun, Fun for All” as it was focused around entrepreneurship, economics, physical education, law, and sports trivia. The main event was a task to create a new game unlike any other that used at least one ball and had a focus around inclusivity for everyone, including all disabilities, ages, and ability levels. This was a very new type of competition for the OCAY League members.
Senior Shaylee Cealie said, "It was a very fun and different competition."
Along with the main event, the team was given several side tasks to accomplish such as preparing for a question and answer about the game, as well as making a poster showcasing the game, taking a series of five quizzes, and making a cost-effective team roster.
Senior Andrew Hyde stated that, "This competition was definitely unique from the rest. I am happy I was able to participate in this event. It was very fun to do with everyone."
Cealie noted, "I am glad I got to go to the last competition. It was nice to be able to end my senior year participating in OCAY League."
"It was an amazing experience and I was so proud of how innovative, creative, and smart my teammates were in order to achieve third place," senior Camille Stevenson said.
Senior Ean Stevenson stated, "OCAY League was fantastic. Fulton finished strong this year with its third medal at the business and PE-focused competition."
Congratulations, OCAY League members!
