Boys Basketball Gives Back 🏀

By Breahna Boots

GRB's boys basketball team provided community service to support a spaghetti dinner on Saturday, November 30. The event was a fundraiser for an annual scholarship for a student athlete who exhibits character strengths such as good behavior, academics, leadership, team work, and sportsmanship.

The scholarship is in of honor Scott Moroz who was once a student athlete at GRB. Moroz graduated in 1983 and, unfortunately, passed away ten years ago.

Moroz played basketball when he was a student at GRB. He was coached by Mr. Misch who is now the assistant coach for the boys basketball team.

"It was overall just a great community event," Coach Broderick noted.

All 14 players on the boys basketball team, two managers, and three coaches, showed up and helped out with serving and making the spaghetti dinners.

Senior Michael Janaro said, "It was great to give back to a community that always supports us."

Coach Broderick also said, "It was an opportunity for our guys to be together and just build some camaraderie while at the same time and, more importantly, raise some money for a really worthwhile cause."

There were also raffles and baskets people could bid on.

The boys spent all of their Saturday afternoon making and serving spaghetti.

"The most important piece is the scholarship in Scott's honor and the players also get to understand the value of community service," Coach Broderick said.

Thanks to the team for giving back!
