Fulton Seniors Enjoy Rugby

Rugby is a lot like football. It is played with two teams, each with 15 players. Each team tries to score as many points as possible, but cannot carry, pass, or kick the ball to the endzone.

While Rugby is more popular worldwide, football is possibly the most popular sport in America. However, two G. Ray Bodley students have found a liking to the globally popular sport. Seniors Destiny Schneider and Quynn Sweeney play rugby on a team in North Syracuse and have proved themselves to be very good at it.

The team they play on is very good and has won many games. They always play no matter how the weather is, even if its raining or snowing.

Sweeney said, "I found out about Rugby through my friend and I played my junior year and then I got Destiny into it our senior year.”

The entire team is very close to each other and tries very hard to win.

Sweeney also said, “We really like the camaraderie. All of the girls are so close. It’s really relaxed, but at the end of the day we get down to business and our will to fight is very strong in games!"

Social studies teacher Mr. McCarten said he attended one of Quynn and Destiny’s games and enjoyed seeing two of his students try their best to show their strength and win while also having fun with their friends on the team.

Sweeney and Schneider also recently celebrated their senior night for the team where they bonded and celebrated their senior year with their teammates. There are many different sports outside of GRB that every student can participate in and students are urged to join these sports or any activity they might enjoy.
