This June, GRB will be saying goodbye to many graduating students as well as many teachers who are retiring. Among those retiring is Mr. Rothrock, a Biology teacher who has been teaching at GRB for 21 years. Prior to working at GRB, Mr. Rothrock worked at Beaver River High School for two years. He also worked at Canastota for seven years.
Many students appreciate the work and dedication that Mr. Rothrock puts into his work everyday. He is always creating and editing new homeworks, quizzes, and labs to enhance students' learning. Although he can sometimes come across as ruthless, he always puts in great effort and extra hours to help the students who need extra support.
Mr. Rothrock is not only an amazing teacher, but is always there to support students. He is always willing to listen to student conflicts and always helps out kids when they are having a tough day. Many times he has helped students out with backpack troubles and always lets kids keep their coats or sports bags in his back room.
Not only did Mr. Rothrock teach while at GRB, but he has also coached for many sports. Football was his main coaching sport. In total, he coached Varsity football for 30 years and along with it helped GRB win many games and championships. JV Lacrosse and Modified Track have also had Mr. Rothrock as a coach.
In retirement, Mr. Rothrock will be enjoying his free time with friends and family. He will be doing lots of his favorite things including hunting and fishing. He plans to make the most of his retirement.
He said, “I have been so lucky to end up here in Fulton and am looking forward to the relaxation of retirement.”
“I appreciate that Rothrock always makes me laugh no matter what mood I'm in,” sophomore Lauren Goss said.
Junior Mackenzie Birdsell stated, “I appreciate that Mr. Rothrock chooses to go out of his way to connect with every student.”
GRB thanks Mr. Rothrock and all teachers this week and wishes those retiring this year the best of luck!
