Fulton Bowling Season Takes Off

By Joshua Sokolic

Fulton bowlers started their season this week with two matches. The first match was against West Genesee at Solvay Recreation Center.

As the first game began, the Fulton teams struggled to figure out the alley conditions. Although the match was a struggle, players began to figure it out and both teams ended the match 3-0, shutting out West Genesee. It was eye-opening for some of our new Raider rollers. Many had never bowled in any house other than Lakeview.

The second match was against the Liverpool Warriors at Flamingo Lanes. The boys team lost 0-3, as a good team effort was not enough. The Liverpool team is the reigning Section 3 champs from 2018-2019. They retained all of their players from last year and had a great effort, each shooting over a 600 series. Junior Mitchell Donaldson put up a hard-fought 600 series for the boys team, with assists by junior Owen Sheldon, sophomore Mark Smith, and two first season seniors, Josh Sokolic and Sean Flynn.

The girls team had a great match and rolled over Liverpool, 3-0. The team was led by sophomore Alexis Ingersoll who threw a great three-game series of 728, highest of all boys and girls bowlers on both teams for that match. Her assisting teammates were junior Sarah Gigliotti, sophomore Jaden Harrington, freshman Miranda Laws and seventh-grader Addison Nichols. Nichols hit her first 200-game in competition for a 508 series for the match. Gigliotti hit quite a few strikes to show great improvement over last year. The girls team should be quite a team to contend with when it comes time for Sectionals in February.

Next week, the Red Raiders have four matches, with one being away at Central Square and three at home. Come watch the bowlers on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Lakeview at 3:30 p.m. and cheer them on.

Good luck, Raiders!
