ALA YMA Awards Streaming at GRB

By Domenic Dashnau

On Monday, January 27, the 2020 Youth Media Awards will be streamed in our library here at GRB at 8:00 a.m. Mrs. Scalfaro will be hosting this stream in the den of the library in front of the big TV. She invites everyone and anyone to come join in, even from classes with teacher permission.

The YMAs are an awards ceremony where the American Library Association recognizes books, videos, and other outstanding materials made for children and teens. It takes place in the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia every year.

The awards ceremony gives out 22 awards and only focuses on literature and media that is in the field of children and young adults.

Librarian Mrs. Scalfaro said, “If a whole class would like to come down, just have your teacher contact me ahead of time." She said she will wants to prepare in advance for how many students and staff are going to be there.

She is streaming this for students and staff so she can spread literature among young adults, which is very important. Reading is still a very important skill that many children and young adults are lacking.

Mrs. Scalfaro is always open to helping students find books that fit them and is great with recommendations for students who honestly have no idea what they like to read about.

Go see Mrs. Scalfaro for more information on the award stream or if you need help finding a book or two. She would be more than glad to inform and help all students and staff.
