By Breahna Boots
On Friday, October 18, GRB held its annual pep rally in the main gym. The bell schedule was adjusted and the festivities began around 1:00 p.m.
Students and staff got together to enjoy activities like tug-of-war and a hula hoop competition. The pep rally ended with four staff members getting a pie to the face.
To begin the pep rally, the cheerleaders showcased their routine and it really helped get the students excited and involved.
"I thought it was a great celebration of our school and our school spirit. It was fun to see students and staff involved in activities together and it was also a great way to showcase all the wonderful kids here at GRB," School Counselor Ms. Rickert said.
The pep rally started off with the crowning of GRB's Homecoming King and Queen. Seniors Alex Blaine and Rebecca Bailey won the titles. Seniors Nevaeh Tucker and Kira Whitehead were part of homecoming court for the queen. Senior Ethan Hadcock and Senior Samuel Cary were part of homecoming court for the king.
"It was great to see our students enthusiastic and participating in events," Assistant Principal Ms. Stephenson said.
Students and staff competed against in each other in a hula hoop contest. The students participating in the event tried really hard to win, but ended up losing to the staff members who competed against them.
Four students and two teachers competed against one another during a Rubik's cube battle. Mr. McCarten definitely put on a show trying to solve the Rubik's cube behind his back, but ended up losing to senior Ronde Wood.
Senior Tory Paro said, "I think it was a great time and I feel like everybody felt involved and really excited. GRB definitely came together as one and had a great time showing off our school spirit."
To end the pep rally as promised, the four staff members who raised the most money in their breast cancer awareness buckets got pied in the face. Physical Education teacher Mr. Halladay started off being pied in the face by Hadcock and Mrs. Halladay. Principal Mrs. Parkhurst was pied by Blaine. Ms. Rickert was pied by Whitehead and Teaching Assistant Mr. Jones was pied by Tucker.
The pep rally for the 2019-2020 school year was a great time and students and staff really enjoyed it!
