Softball players had tryouts from March 4 to March 8 in preparation for an amazing season. With excitement, determination, and ambition present on all their faces, they were ready to face many challenging teams and come out on top.
The varsity players returning for another great year of softball including Madison Gilmore, Erin Waloven, Sam Jodway, Camille Stevenson, Leia Abbott, Jada Ballard, Alecia Meritt, and Jayda Borrow.
The seniors for this season are Waloven, Jodway, Stevenson, Abbott, and Ballard.
Upcoming freshman Lydia Mirabito explained how she expects a successful season with many improvements in their future. Ballard had similar sentiments saying she hoped for an amazing season to end her senior year.
Already the season has started off with an erratic schedule due to weather with a Snow Day on Wednesday, March 6. With how the weather seems to be this year, the team can expect to cancel their first few games with their first game being on April 9 against West Genesee.
Varsity and JV girls also had many participants in the school play "Anything Goes" including Chloe Hurlbutt and Kelsey Caza.
Coach Lyons said his goals for the team this year are making Sectionals, getting better everyday and every game, and to work hard while also having fun. He wisely explained that to achieve these goals the girls would have to adopt a "fearless mindset" and not be afraid to make mistakes in order to play their best game.
FDR's notion that "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself" comes to mind. This way of viewing life will not only allow the girls to become better softball players, but to also become more dedicated and determined in their everyday lives and help them with their future endeavors.
