Fall Sports to Start in Spring

By Olivia Bush

On September 19, the Fulton Board of Education recalled their decision to cancel fall sports and postponed them to a later date set in the spring. Many fall athletes were very pleased to hear this.

Senior Jack Broderick stated, ¨Obviously it is still far away and there is a lot that can happen until then but as of right now I think we are going to play.¨ Many of the students are positive about the idea of playing in the spring, saying they are glad all student athletes can compete.

With fall sports pushed into the spring this impacts the spring sports with a shortened season. Already losing an entire season the previous year due to the school shut down on March 15, some spring sport athletes are upset they are missing out again on another full season.

Girls lacrosse senior captain Lexi Patterson said, ¨I feel like the first priority should be spring sports getting a full season. Instead, they are hurting us again just because they want to get football in.¨

Since there are no scheduled sports at this time, what is the school doing to keep kids active and competitive? Senior Student Board of Education Representative Samuel May met with several fall sport athletes, coaches, and Athletic Director Mr. Ells about what they should do about keeping kids active during this time. May said,¨We are doing team practices/workouts Monday-Thursday and a fun game day on Fridays where everyone comes together.¨

There are no competitive games this fall, only practices for the next four weeks. Games for fall sports are scheduled to begin in the spring.
