On January 19, the Fulton Wrestlers won the Section 3 Duals for the third year in a row, qualifying them for the NYS Duals.
To qualify, the wrestlers had to defeat an Oleaon team that entered the tournament undefeated (21-0) and a Spencerport team that entered the tournament ranked #7 in New York State. Spencerport was ahead of Fulton, who ranks at #10 in New York.
Coach Waldron explained that the Wrestlers are the only Division 1 team to repeat as a final four team in the second year of the Official NYS Wrestling Dual meet Tournament.
Senior Thomas Hughes, junior Andru Walts, and junior Camrin Galvin lead the team with undefeated performances.
Coach Waldron said, “We wrestle the toughest schedule in the state by design. We weren’t intimidated by the competition. We have already wrestled five of the state tournament teams during the regular season.”
Fulton defeated Olean 42-27 and Spencerport 39-28. With the wins, the team advances to the semi-finals for a second time.
Coach Waldron added, “Repeating as New York State tournament semifinalist is a great accomplishment and speaks to the consistency of our program.”
The Fulton wrestlers will take part in the Class A tournament February 2 and 3. The Fulton team has won this tournament 29 years in a row. Later in the month, Fulton will be at Sectionals. Two weeks later, the team travels to Albany for Individual NYS championships.
Coach Waldron stated, “We look for our fifth consecutive win to tie the record for most section championships in a row.”
