Athletes Adjust to New Season

On Tuesday, September 15, the Fulton City School District Board of Education held a meeting and voted in favor of canceling fall sports. The announcement to the public came shortly after, which, in return outraged students, parents, and even staff members at GRB. After protests and many meetings the decision was made that fall sports may begin practice but cannot compete in any games.

Monday, October 5th, was the start to what a new normal season is going to look like for sports, with only practices being held and games not to start until the spring. Student athletes will be adjusting to the new way of participating in athletics.

Senior Corinne Clarke, who cheers for Fulton, stated, “Our season is shorter and we won't get as much training. We also won't get Sectionals, which is what we look forward to during the season.” With the decision to not have fall sports until spring being a district-wide decision, other districts will still be participating in games.

Fellow senior and teammate to Clarke, Madison Johnson, also stated, “We won't have the ability to have a normal season especially with our sport being so high risk. We won't be doing our normal activities that we’re used to.”

Junior volleyball player Lydia Gigliotti said, “I think it's going to be complicated and going to take a lot of cooperation from our team to follow all the safety measures. It definitely won't be the same as it was in the past but hopefully there is some normalcy to it.”
