Saturday, October 12, the varsity cheerleaders flipped into action as they competed at their first competition of the season.
Anxious, but excited to take on the day, they arrived at Hannibal Middle School around 9:00 a.m. As they settled in and were shown to a classroom until it was time to begin, everyone's spirits were high as they were playing music, singing, and dancing.
Senior Summer Kennedy said, "Listening to music and jamming out before and after we go on is always the best part of the day, no matter if we did good or bad."
Finally, as the competition was coming to an end, it was their turn to warm up as they were last to go on. During warm ups, everything hit and things were looking up.
The performance went the same and when it was over, all the cheerleaders jumped and cheered, pleased with how everything went.
Senior Nevaeh Tucker stated, "I honestly was not expecting us to do that good with it being the first competition of the season and nerves being high, but I am so relieved and deep down we all knew we could do it."
The team took home a second place trophy. They went against Liverpool, who also had a great routine, but when the girls saw what they scored, things were looking up again and they are in a great place for Sectionals, which take place on October 26.
Coach Nikki Greenier said, "I am so happy with how the girls performed and they should feel the same way. I am always so proud to coach such an amazing team of athletes. We have Sectionals in the bag."
