As the end of the year approaches, final projects are popping up in classes all over the school. Ceramics 2 is no different.
This year's final project is 50% of the final exam grade and its criteria consists of the student using four out of the seven hand-building techniques that have been taught and combining them to create a cohesive piece. The piece can be functional or sculptural, meaning it can be a useful object like a bowl or cup or can just be a piece meant to be looked at and admired. Just like all the projects throughout the class, it needs to be glazed or painted and ready to be photographed by May 31.
The seven hand-building techniques are pinch, slab, coil, thrown (using a pottery wheel), sculpt, stamp/mold, and drape.
Many students have had ideas to do sets of things like vases, cups, and bowls. Art teacher Mrs. Williams said, "Making sets is the least creative way to take on this project." She added, however, "I have seen some sets that were so out there that I would never have thought to do."
This means although sets seem like an easy way out, some students have taken it that extra step and put in the extra effort to make their sets extra creative.
