Students Split about Covid Safety

By Sean Hein

Many have been wondering if students are worried about or caring about Covid in school.

Since the abrupt ending of in-school learning in March, Fulton students wondered just how school was supposed to return this year. Months passed and GRB came up with their solution and now kids are back in school and learning fast already.

The school has introduced a number of changes from hallway flow directions to changing classrooms, but it is interesting to note just how safe the students at Fulton feel and whether or not kids truly care about the Covid problem in school.

Senior David Cordone said, "I feel safe. Well, we´ve only had one case so I mean at least some of the precautions are working.¨

Senior Jaden Patterson simply said, "No. I really hope the rules help."

Students are not the only ones with concerns. Band teacher Mr. Caviness stated, "I felt more safe when they put the plan out, but now there are a lot of kids and students moving around.¨

Even though many kids and teachers seem to be concerned with Covid, others are seemingly unworried about the problem.

Ten students were asked to rate the overall amount they care about the Covid 19 problem on a scale of 1-10, with 10 meaning they care a great deal and 1 meaning they do not care much at all. The results were 7, 2, 3, 0, 6, 7, 4, 5, 9, 2 with an average of 4.5 on the scale.

At GRB, some students are worried about Covid while others are not at all. Regardless, the school will continue to keep up and adapt their rules as necessary to keep students and staff safe.
