When the 17 ENL (English as a New Learner) students and staff from GRB arrived at Ruby Tuesday restaurant in Oswego on Saturday, May 4, before the junior prom, they were excited to eat a nice dinner and get on their way. Little did they know the surprise that awaited them at the end of the meal.
ENL teacher Ms. Turley, who was also the students' chaperone, explained that the restaurant covered the entire bill. She went on to say, “When the manager told me we did not have to pay for our food, I got chills and tears in my eyes.”
Ruby Tuesday manager Mark Wiens was so delighted at the respectful, well-mannered, bilingual group of students, he decided that he wanted to give them a wonderful surprise on their prom night, one that they would never forget.
Sophomore Jose Reyes said, “The restaurant gave us a lot of delicious food. The salad was my favorite because you can make it how you like it.”
Senior Rose Velazquez agreed and said, “The restaurant was my favorite part because they treated us nicely and they were nice people.”
Senior Adonis Marroquin enthusiastically stated, “The staff was super attentive to each and every one of us. The waiter asked us often if we needed anything, if he could make anything better for us.”
Throughout the entire dinner at Ruby Tuesday, the ENL students felt very comfortable and were very appreciative for perfect service.
Yes, we had a wonderful surprise at the end of the dinner. It’s not often that we’re shown such kindness, but prom night at Ruby Tuesday was an experience that was all about kindness and gratitude.
A “shoutout” and sincere thank you to manager, Mark Wiens, and the staff of the Oswego Ruby Tuesday!
