Two Bowlers Roll on to State Finals

The Varsity Boys Bowling team completed their season Sunday, February 9 at Sectionals.

The boys finished their regular season as co-champions of the SCAC Empire league, along with Central Square and Oswego.

Going into the day on Sunday, the boys knew they had a tough hill to climb. Fulton had two first-year bowlers who were slated to lead off the team, seniors Josh Sokolic and Sean Flynn. The boys fought hard, but just couldn’t gain any ground. The boys found themselves seventh overall after three games. The team was led by junior Owen Sheldon with a 670 series at the end of the third game. Sophomore Mark Smith had a great first game with a 255, ending him with a 620 series at the break. Sokolic had a 590 series, junior Mitch Donaldson had a 577 series and Flynn had a 423 series.

The boys would come back for the second half with new vigor. The team was led the second half by Flynn with a 565 series, Sokolic with a 563, Smith with a 550, Donaldson with a 539, and Sheldon with a 487 series. The boys would place fifth in Class B and seventh in the overall Division #1 standings. Baldwinsville would go on to win and will be representing Section 3 at the State Tournament.

Unfortunately, the season is over for the team, but Junior Mitch Donaldson earned a chance to make the Section 3 Composite team based on his season average. Donaldson competed in the Section 3 shootout on Thursday, February 13 at King Pin Lanes in Rome to try to secure one of the two spots left on the team. He would finish second with a total pin fall of 1395 and will join the rest of the boys on the Section 3 Composite team. The team includes Eric Carson of Oswego, Nick Henshaw of Homer, Shane Hecker of Waterville, Tyler Dottolo of CNS, and Trent Beattie of Whitesboro and they will compete on March 14 at 8:00 a.m. at Strike N’ Spare Lanes.

Also competing in the shootout for Fulton was sophomore Alexis Ingersoll. Ingersoll would finish first with a total pin fall of 1350. She will compete with the rest of the Section 3 Girls Composite team on March 14 at 2:00 p.m. at Strike N’ Spare Lanes and will be joined by Ashley Hardy from Liverpool, Kaitlynn Conte from Utica-Proctor, Eliana Occhino from CBA, Olivia Fehlner from Sherburne, and Kaylee Hodson from Auburn.

Congratulations to both bowlers for making the States team! Go Raiders!
