Community Comes Together to Celebrate Class of 2020

By Dominic Fischel

Members of the Fulton community are coming together to celebrate this year's seniors quite differently.

This year, parents and local businesses are “adopting” GRB seniors and pledging to do something nice for them for accomplishing their goals and to celebrate their graduation.

“'Adopt a Senior 2020' is a community Facebook group that anyone can join and choose a senior to adopt. By adopting a senior, they are pledging to do a little something for the senior, whether it be sending a card, a little gift, etc.,” senior Macy Middleton said.

Even though this year was cut really short due to Covid-19, it is nice to see efforts made by the community to make sure this year's seniors' accomplishments are not forgotten among the chaos Covid has brought.

“I created the Adopt a Senior page to help recognize seniors and make them feel special since the year was cut short due to the pandemic,” senior and Adopt a Senior 2020 coordinator Brittany Baum said.

This group is completely optional, though every senior is encouraged to participate in order to get help paying for things they may want or need for college or for entering the workforce.

“The goal is for every senior to be adopted and receive a gift in the form of a card, gift basket, or something off an Amazon Wishlist” Baum added.

Any adopter may adopt as many people as they can in order to make sure everyone is included and no one is forgotten.

If any senior has yet to post in the group they are encouraged to do so and there is no deadline to sign-up. Students or parents are allowed to post adoptees on this page.
