Boys Basketball Wins Tournament

By Breahna Boots

The varsity boys basketball team recently restarted the Fulton Savings Bank holiday basketball tournament for the first time in ten years.

They used to do this tournament annually, but have not for the past few years for a number of reasons.

The tournament included Fulton, Hannibal, Phoenix, and Jordan-Elbridge.

"First and foremost I want to thank Fulton Savings Bank for sponsoring the tournament. Because of their sponsorship, we were able to have the tournament," Coach Broderick said.

The tournament was well-attended and was a great win for the basketball team.

In the first game, the boys competed against Phoenix and won with a score of 66-41.

Senior Seth Grimshaw scored a total of 24 points and junior Jack Broderick scored a total of 14 points.

Ten different students athletes from GRB scored during that game.

In the championship game, the boys played against Jordan-Elbridge and won with a score of 68-58.

During that game, in the fourth quarter, the score was still very close. Senior Seth Grimshaw brought the score up for GRB by scoring 10 consecutive free throws.

Juniors Jack Broderick and Anthony Bennett both scored a total of nine points during that game.

After the game, the team had an opportunity to invite all of the youth basketball kids in to help celebrate their big win and to have some pizza.

Coach Broderick and his team are hoping to continue the tradition and be able to play this tournament every year.

This was the first tournament that GRB's boys varsity basketball team has won in 10 years.

They've played in many tournaments over the past few years and have not been able to pull out a big win like this until this year.

Congratulations to Coach Broderick and his team!
