Students Now Required to Sign In and Out of Bathrooms

By Anthony Dashnau

A new bathroom procedure was recently implemented at G. Ray Bodley High School. Students now have to sign in and out of the bathrooms as it appears a few students have no respect for the school's property.

This whole plan is new to staff and students as it just started on Monday, January 6. Some students have ruined bathroom privileges for others.

Some of the reasons this is happening is because of kids breaking the soap dispensers and other items in student bathrooms. Some students took the whole roll of toilet paper and threw it in the toilet. Students would also take their lunches and throw them in the toilet along with all their trash.

In addition, some students threw items up in the ceiling and broke ceiling tiles. Juuling and vaping also continues to be an issue.

Assistant Principal Mr. Murray stated, "This is a response to some of our students not being responsible and not taking care of our facilities."

Principal Mrs. Parkhurst said, "This is one way to help with accountability. Our long-term goal is for students to be responsible and take pride in our school."

Mr. Halladay added, "I do not understand why there needs to be 10 people in the bathroom and then when 10 people get caught in there they act surprised when they get searched."

There is no definite end date for this procedure, but decisions will be made based on new data after monitoring whether or not the vandalism stops.
