Last Chance for a School Physical

Are you a freshman, junior, or a student who will be participating in a spring sport? If you answered yes to any of those, that means New York State requires you to have a physical.

Although it is recommended that students have a physical with their doctor, if there are concerns about insurance, money, or time, do not fret. The last day to have a physical in the Nurse’s Office is Tuesday, February 26. The physical itself typically takes 10-15 minutes.

Senior Austin Mason, who has had a physical at school in the past said, “It is convenient that there are physicals in school because they are free.”

Senior Eric Shear, who will be participating in Boys Varsity Tennis in the Spring, said, “It is helpful to have the option of having a physical in school because, that way, parents don’t have to bother with scheduling a doctor’s appointment and transporting students.”

Students are allowed to just drop in, but there may be a wait. Mrs. Stoutenger, the nurse at G Ray Bodley High School said, “We try not to take kids out of the core classes, so we try to call ahead and see when is a good time for them to schedule their physical.”

Don’t forget that February 26 is the last day to have a school physical for freshmen, juniors, and students participating in a Spring sport.
