On Wednesday, January 15, the varsity cheerleaders will be heading into battle with four other teams to start off their competition season.

They will be traveling to Cortland for leagues early that morning. Because it is the first competition of the season, the girls are both excited and nervous.

Coach Nikki said, "I would be lying if I said I was not nervous. I always am, but I have faith in these girls that they will do their best when the time comes. I am excited to see where we score."

For leagues, the varsity team will be competing against the following teams: Oswego, Cortland, ESM, and Central Square.

Sophomore Alexis Bardin stated, "Going against four teams can be tough, but it pushes us to do even better. It is also nice to see where we are scoring compared to everyone else so we know what needs to be changed in time for Sectionals."

Since it is a new season with a new team, this will be the first time some girls are competing at a varsity level.

Junior Olivia Forsyth is new to the team and said, "Being on varsity has been so much fun and I have learned so many new skills. I am nervous about competing, but as long as I pretend to have the confidence I need and do my best I know it will be a great experience."

This season, the team lost many girls, gained new ones, and faced unfortunate injuries, but they are confident with the team they have and are ready to kick of the competition season with a good start.
