Students Reveal Reasons for Learning in Person

By Sarah Gigliotti

Students coming back to school after six months of remotely learning seem to have a different perspective on how much school has meant to them. As school starts up, things around here have changed to take precautions for the virus, but have stayed the same just enough to keep students feeling safe and wanting to come back.

On September 10 and 11, the whole school logged on to online classes to begin the school year, walking each student through classes and schedules. Students were given the choice of staying home to learn virtually or attend school for two days a week and have the rest of the week be online. Doing their best, the school has taken many precautions to keep everyone healthy and happy by social distancing and wearing masks. There is also hand sanitizer in each room.

But for some of the school, online was enough for them.

Those students who opted to go to school have different reasons for attending. Junior Claire Broderick said, "I stayed in school to see my friends that I missed due to the virus in quarantine and have a place to go rather than just my home."

Junior Lydia Gigliotti said, "I went to school because it is a better learning opportunity and to see everyone I missed."

Students in school feel relief seeing people they could not before, even if it is not everyone at once, but it helps motivate them to come to school every day and to help learn from their teachers face to face.

Senior Brandon Hacic stated, "I opted to stay in school because I am more of a visual learner."

Attending school has been hectic for some, but others just want to spend time with people they have missed and learn better than they could have online, which most people are used to.

As the school year goes on, it will be clear if students continue to feel this way toward school and contribute to help keep the school a healthy place so maybe sometime soon it can reopen to everyone and go back to normal.
