Voters receive an "I Voted" sticker after casting their ballots.

Students Register to Vote for 2020 Election

By Dominic Fischel

Students who turn 18 before April 28, or November 3, will be able to register to vote in their Social Studies class for the upcoming Democratic Primary and/or the 2020 Presidential Election.

All students will need is their license or permit, their zip code, and their Social Security number. That is it! Registering to vote only takes about five minutes, according to the New York State government's website.

Choosing a party affiliation means if you choose Republican you would be unable to vote in the Democratic Primary. If you choose undeclared, you will not be able to vote in the Democratic Primary and will choose your party affiliation if you choose to vote on Election Day.

Social Studies Department Chair Mr. Nate Fasulo said, "The Social Studies teachers are going to help their students register to vote, starting the second week of the third marking period. Part of our State Standards have to do with getting more students involved in civic participation. This is something we've decided to do to help our students get involved with what is going on around them."

Voting is a great way for young people, especially students, to have the chance to stand up for what they believe in, and to be able to see the change they want in society.

US History teacher Mrs. Ruzekowicz said, "All people when they turn 18 should exercise their right to vote, but in order to vote you must be registered!"
