Everyone knows there are many differences in schools. That is obvious. However, there are really distinct differences between my school and GRB because I come from Coatepeque, Guatemala.
First and most obvious, students in my school use uniforms. Families have to pay to attend school and, if they don't walk, they must pay for the bus to take them. Next, students don't say a Pledge of Allegiance at the start of class. In fact, they don't even change classes. It is the teachers who change classes. Also, teachers don't give work sheets. You have to pay if you want one! The students work only out of their own notebooks or books.
In addition, we don't have computers in every room like GRB does. There is only one computer room for the entire school to use.
Furthermore, there are no elective classes. For example, there is no health class or journalism class, and the desks are much smaller.
All students eat lunch at the same time. Can you believe that nobody gets free lunches and everyone must pay? Since school runs from 1:00-to 6:00, lunch is around 3:00 or 3:30 each day.
Finally, every assignment and project is worth only ten points, which would add up to a final grade of 100 points.
The next time you wonder about GRB, think of how different it might be for other students around the world. Culture and diversity can be enlightening and motivational, and it can change your perception of school.
As the saying goes, "Where there's a will for education, there's a way to get it."
