Throughout the year, the administration here at GRB has been working closely with student leaders to make changes to bring the students closer and improve school culture.
Senior Caleb Clarke brought several ideas to the GRB site-based committee and presented a broad school improvement plan. Some of the ideas presented in the plan include more school events and fundraisers, a student-run school social media presence, a pep band, and several other changes that will focus on improving school spirit and school culture.
Clarke said, "The plan has the main goal of making strong and meaningful connections between students and G. Ray Bodley High School. The plan will give students opportunities to become involved and invested as part of a bigger school community."
On May 28, students, as well as several administrators and faculty members, met again to discuss the plans for next school year. They discussed the creation of a new organization for students where all students could get involved and present ideas to improve our school.
The group discussed selling t-shirts for students next school year. They plan on buying several hundred t-shirts with our school logo so that every student can have an opportunity to have Red Raider gear. The shirts will be sold at production price, which means the school will make no profit so that the shirts can be affordable for everyone. Students will have an opportunity to vote on the color and design of the shirts in the upcoming weeks.
The group has also made several notable changes so far this year. Students worked together during the winter to organize a student section as well as theme nights for our home basketball games. The school social media has been started, as well. Students and parents can follow @the_tribe_2019 on Instagram and Twitter to see highlights of our school events including sports games, concerts, fundraisers, and other school events. Also, the creation of a pep band has been approved for next school year.
On Friday, May 31, the group will come together again to work on plans for an end-of-year pep rally, which will be held Monday, June 10.
Students and administrators are excited to continue progress with the improvements presented and they will work together to create a more positive environment and improve the culture at GRB.
