Career Day sign-ups started last week in social studies classes. All students signed up online for what careers they want to explore.
Career Day will be held on Monday, March 18, which is a half-day for students. There will be no classes that day, as students will go to Guided Study Hall and then four different sessions representing four different careers.
There were many choices to pick, ranging from a scientist to a chef with many in between (see picture). People come in from each of those career choices to present what they do in their jobs.
The goal of Career Day is to get students to actually think about what they want to pursue as a job and it lets students pick the specific jobs they are interested in. For example, if someone wants to be an elementary school teacher, he or she could choose the education session.
Senior Kaleb Calkins said, “It is very helpful for the students who don’t know what they’re going to do after graduation.”
Senior Maddie Baum said, “I picked pro sports, CSI, FBI, and then a counselor. I am most excited for pro athlete just to see what it is like in the life of someone who does that for a living instead of just a hobby.”
Sophomore Dominic Abbott said, “I picked pro athlete, FBI, and criminal justice. I am most excited for the FBI choice because that seems like a very interesting job to have and I would like to get to know about the schooling in order to get into the FBI.”
While Career Day is very helpful and many people are excited for it, there is also a 100 Days Until Graduation party being held for the seniors that same morning. Seniors will miss two of the Career Day sessions.
Have fun and make sure the choices you pick are ones you’re interested in pursuing!
