Mrtva luka
Znam: ima jedna mrtva luka
I 'ko se u njoj nađe
Čuti će ujutro pjevanje ćuka
I vidjet će umorne lađe.
Brodovi u njoj vječito snivaju
Kako se brodi,
Al' njihova sidra mirno počivaju
U plitkoj vodi.
I tako u snovima gledajuć sreću,
A plovit se boje,
Na jarbole šarene zastave meću,
I — stoje.
Dead Port
This I know: there is a dead port
That whoever might prowl
Will hear the morning owl
And see a tired boat.
There, ships forever dream
Of how great sailing would be
But their anchors rest keen
In shallows of the sea.
They look at happiness with zeal,
But are afraid to go past.
They rig colour flags on the mast

Port dormant
Il y a un port dormant, je le sais
Et qui s’y trouve
Entendra au matin la chouette chanter
Et verra des navires éreintés.
Bateaux rêvant là éternellement
De fendre les flots
Cependant que leurs ancres reposent tranquillement
Dans les peu profondes eaux.
Et c’est ainsi qu’ils cherchent en songes le bonheur
Mais redoutent de naviguer
Mettant à leurs mâts des pavillons chamarrés
Et – sans un mouvement demeurent.
