6. பண்டித வர்க்கம் - அறிஞர்

76-77

குற்றங்களைச் சுட்டிக்காட்டிக் கண்டிக்கிற ஒருவரைக் கண்டால், அவரை, செல்வப் புதையல் இருக்கும் இடத்தைச் சுட்டிக் காட்டுகிறவர் எனக் கருதி, அவரோடு நட்புக் கொண்டு பழக வேண்டும் அப்படிப்பட்டவரை நண்பராகக் கொண்டு அவருடன் பழகுவது நன்மை பயக்குமே யன்றித் தீமை பயக்காது.

Regard him as one who points out treasure, the wise one who seeing your faults rebukes you. stay with this sort of sage. For the one who stays with a sage of this sort, things get better, not worse.

பிறர் தீமை செய்வதைக் கண்டித்துத் தடுத்து அறிவு புகட்டுகிறவர்கள், நல்லோருக்கு அருமை யானவர்கள். ஆனால், தீயவர்களுக்கு வெறுப்பானவர்கள்.

Let him admonish, instruct, deflect you away from poor manners. To the good, he's endearing; to the bad, he's not.

தீயவர்களோடு நேசம் செய்யாதே. அற்பர்களோடு இணங்காதே. நேர்மையான நல்லோருடன் நட்புக் கொள். மேன்மக்களோடு சேர்ந்து பழகு.

Don't associate with bad friends. Don't associate with the low. Associate with admirable friends. Associate with the best.

உண்மையான உவப்புடன் நேசிக்கிறவர்கள், நிம்மதியான மனத்துடன் இன்பமாக இருக்கிறார் கள். அறிஞர்களான பண்டிதர்களின் உபதேசத்தில் அறிவாளிகள் உவகையடைகிறார்கள்.

Drinking the Dhamma, refreshed by the Dhamma, one sleeps at ease with clear awareness and calm. In the Dhamma revealed by the noble ones, the wise person always delights.

பாசனக்காரர்கள் நீரைச் செலுத்திப் பாய்ச்சுகிறார்கள். அம்பு விற்போர், அம்புகளைக் கோணல் இல்லாமல் செவ்விதாகச் செய்கிறார்கள் தச்சர் மரங்களை வளைக்கிறார்கள். அறிஞர் தம்மைத் தாமே அடக்கி ஆள்கிறார்கள்.

Irrigators guide the water. Fletchers shape the arrow shaft. Carpenters shape the wood. The wise control

themselves.

கற்பாறை, சூறாவளிக் காற்றுக்கும் அசையாதிருப்பது போல, அறிஞர் புகழ்ச்சிக்கும் இகழ்ச் சிக்கும் அசைய மாட்டார்கள்.

As a single slab of rock won't budge in the wind, so the wise are not moved by praise, by blame.

ஆழமான குளத்தில் இருக்கிற மாசற்ற தெளிந்த நீரைப் போன்று, தர்ம உபதேசங்களைக் கேட்ப தினாலே அறிஞர் மிகவும் தூய்மை அடைகிறார்கள்.

Like a deep lake, clear, unruffled, & calm: so the wise become clear, calm, on hearing words of the Dhamma.

அறிஞர்கள், எப்பொருளிலும் பற்று வைப்பதில்லை. இன்பத்தினாலும் துன்பத்தினாலும் பற்றப் படாத படியினாலே, பண்டிதர்கள் பெருமையடைவதுமில்லை தாழ்மையடைவதுமில்லை.

Everywhere, truly, those of integrity stand apart. They, the good, don't chatter in hopes of favor or gains.

When touched now by pleasure, now pain, the wise give no sign of high or low.

தனக்காகவும் பிறருக்காகவும் மக்கட் பேற்றையும் அரசாட்சியையும் விரும்பக்கூடாது. முறை தவறிய வழியில் தனது சொந்த நன்மையை நாடக்கூடாது அப்படிப்பட்ட சீலவான் அறிவாளி யாகவும் நீதி மானாகவும் இருக்கிறார்.

One who wouldn't — not for his own sake nor that of another — hanker for wealth, a son, a kingdom, his own fulfillment, by unrighteous means: he is righteous, rich in virtue, discernment.

85-89

மக்களில் மிகச்சில பேர் மட்டும், பிறவிப் பெருங்கடலைக் கடந்து அக்கரையைச் சேர்கிறார்கள்.

மக்களில் பெரும்பான்மையோர் இக்கரைக்கே திரும்பி வந்து விடுகிறார்கள்.

Few are the people who reach the Far Shore. These others simply scurry along this shore.

‘சத்’ தர்ம உபதேசத்தின்படி நடக்கிறவர்கள், கடத்தற்கு அரிய யமலோகத்தைக் கடந்து அக்கரையைச் சேர்கிறார்கள்.

But those who practice Dhamma in line with the well-taught Dhamma, will cross over the realm of Death

so hard to transcend.

அறிஞரானவர் தீயதை நீக்கி நல்லதைக் கைக்கொண்டு அதன்படி நடக்கவேண்டும். இல்லறத்தை விட்டு, துய்ப்பதற்கு அருமையான ஏகாந்த இன்பத்துக்காக, தனிமையாயிருக்கிற துறவறத் திற்குச் செல்ல வேண்டும்.

Forsaking dark practices the wise person should develop the bright, having gone from home to no-home

in seclusion, so hard to enjoy.

அறிஞர் இன்பசுகங்களை விட்டொழித்து, எல்லாவற்றையும் துறந்து, மனமாசுகளையெல்லாம் சுத்தம் செய்து, தூய்மையுடன் உவகையோடு இருக்க வேண்டும்.

There he should wish for delight, discarding sensuality — he who has nothing. He should cleanse himself — wise — of what defiles the mind.

ஸம்போதியங்கத்தில் மனத்தை நிறுத்திய அறிஞர்கள், எதிலும் பற்றற்றவர்களாய், பற்றுக் களை விடுவதில் ஆசையுள்ளவர்களாய், மாசு இல்லாமல் ஒளி விட்டுப் பிரகாசிக்கிறார்கள். அவர்கள் இந்த உலகத்திலேயே நிர்வாண மோச்சத்தை அடைந்தவர் ஆவர்.

Whose minds are well-developed in the factors of self-awakening, who delight in non-clinging, relinquishing grasping — resplendent, their effluents ended: they, in the world, are Unbound.
