Hi All,

I would very much like to visit there. Does anyone know whether the

presence of an 'Ong Tay' is likely to be troublesome for either visitor or

visited? I only ask because I',m conscious that Tonle Sap - or at least,

parts of it - are also a well-known tourist destination.

TIA,

Dear list,

Thanks Greg for posting a link to this compelling story. The pictures are wonderful. Unfortunately, we know very little about the Vietnamese community in Cambodia in general and the fishing communities living at the edges of the Tonle river and lake in particular. I wish we had more research on them...

Beyond that, this story reminds me of the pictures of the Vietnamese communities living in border areas I took during my Masters and doctoral fieldwork between 2006 and 2010. If any VSG members are interested, here are some links to this collection:

I would love to look at other VSG members' photo collections...

Dear Colleagues,

If you would like to learn more about the Vietnamese living in Cambodia, Thien-Huong Ninh recently published a book based on research with the Vietnamese community in Cambodia and comparisons with Vietnamese communities in the United States:

The book examines the stateless condition of Vietnamese Cambodians and also their religious practices. It also contains her reflections on the problems in doing ethnographic research in such a sensitive area.
