Subject: [Vsg] sasa pumila

Does anyone know if there is a common cultural significance to the kind of bamboo, sasa pumila, that Tran Thanh Giao describes in his story, "In the Bamboo Grove"? In Giao, Nam Son, and Wayne Karlin's translation, the narrator says it is the kind whose "stalks are a radiant yellow and marked with two vertical green stripes."

Thanks!

Charles
